Yeh bhi English hi hain

You'll forget your English by the time you finish reading this. This is a true essay written by a Bihari candidate at UPSC (IAS) Examinations. The candidate has written an essay on the Indian Cow.

INDIAN COW

He is the cow.The cow is a successful animal. Also he is 4 footed, and because he is female, he gives milks. He is same like God , sacred to Hindus and useful to man. But he has got four legs together. Two are forward and two are afterwards. His whole body can be utilised for use. More so the milk. Milk comes from 4 taps attached to his basement. What can it do? Various ghee, butter, cream, curd, why and the condensed milk and so forth. And he is also useful to cobbler, watermans and mankind generally. His motion is slow only because he is of lazy species, and also his gober is much useful to farmers, plants and trees and is used to make flat cakes, in hand and drying sun.Cow is the only animal that extricates after eating. Then afterwards she chew with his teeth whom are situated in the inside of the mouth. He is incessantly in hte meadows in the grass. His only attacking and defending organ is the horns, specially so when he is got child. This is done by knowing his head whereby he causes the weapond to be parralleled to the ground of the earth and instantly proceed with great velocity forewards. He has got tails also, situated in the backyard, but not like similar animals. It has hairs on the other end of the other side. This is done to frighten away the flies which alight on his cohesive body hereupon he gives hit with it.The palms of his feet are soft onto the touch. So the grasses head is not crushed. At night time have poses by looking down on the ground and he shouts. His eyes and nose are like his other relatives. This is the cow.

Laden's valentine

A little boy comes home from first grade and tells his father that he learned about the history of Valentine's Day. "As Valentine's Day is for a Christian saint and we're Jewish," he asks, "will God get angry at me for giving someone a valentine?" The father thinks for a moment and then says, "No, I don't think God would get mad. Who do you want to give a valentine to?"

"Osama Bin Laden," the boy says.

"Why Osama ," his father asks in disbelief.

"Well," David says, "I thought that if a little Jewish boy could have enough love to give Osama a valentine, he might start to think that maybe we're not all bad, and maybe start loving people a little bit. And if other kids saw what I did and sent valentines to Osama, he'd jump with joy. And then he'd go all over and tell everyone how much he loved them and how he didn't hate anyone anymore."

Father's heart swells and he looks at his son with newfound pride and joy. "Calvin, that's the most wonderful thing I've ever heard."

"I know," Calvin says, "and once that gets him out in the open, the Marines shoot him."

PC processor names and speeds

Have u ever wondered wat abt the tiny thing wich is the reason ur PC performs those innumerable actions. There are so many processors with names ranging from Athlon, Athlon 64 X2 dual-core, Intel Core Duo, Core 2 Duo, Celeron D, and the list goes on and on. Wen u get into the market for a new computer, there are simply too many to count der. You may have the basic understanding of PC components, but do u no abt all the processors available.
Most home users don't have a real reason to care about which processor. How fast is fast? It is when the user gets into the business of needing lots of power that it makes a difference. Having to have the latest and greatest is not the correct thing for everyone. If you are a gamer, faster is better. If you are emailing the kids every morning, it doesn't make much difference. So based on ur needs u do need to understand the wich processor is best for ur comp and why.

But take the other case. If we go off the assumption that we are classifying "home users" as someone that does minimal email, minimal web browsing, minimal everything. The problem is that as the "home user" gets comfortable using a computer (email, web browsing, etc), they will start to explore using other things like YouTube, MySpace, iTunes, video games, digital cameras, etc. So where once their Celeron processor was fine doing what they wanted, now the "home user" is asking the processor to do things that really a Core Duo should be handling.

While a processor doesn't make the entire computer, it is the cornerstone of the computer and defines what else should be put into the computer. One shudn't attempt to put a nVidia 8800 video card and 4 GB of ram with a celeron processor and also not attempt to put 256 MB of Ram and On-board video with a Quad Core processor. But that doesnt mean one shud buy the cheapest processor/computer to fit their's needs. Since most "home users" might increase their computer usage, they want to see that computer they bought that fit their needs 3-6 months ago become obsolete because they are trying to do too much now. So wat needs to be really emphasized is to buy as much (processor) you can afford. Everything else (drives, memory, monitor, peripherals) can easily be upgraded, but you might be stuck with the wrong/old processor if you go on the cheap.

My favourite team in the IPL

Being from Chennai it shud have been naturally Chennai Super Kings. But its not. And mainly cos my favourtie cricketer is leading the Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR). You guessed it rite. Im a great fan of Saurav. Both wen he was in his bad form, den wen he went on to become to most successful captain in India, wen he lost his place in his team and then fought his way up again. He is the fighter. No matter wat anyone says no one can match upto Dada, The Prince of Kolkata, The Maharaja.
For the record, for the few who are in the dark abt this KKR is the franchise representing Kolkatta in the Indian Premier League. The team was bidded on by Red Chillies Entertainment owned by another fav of mine Shah Rukh Khan[:)]. The official theme of the team is Korbo, Lorbo, Jitbo Re (We will do it, Fight for it, Win it) and the official colors are black and gold. The team is coached by John Buchanan and here's a list of the who's who in the team:
Ricky Ponting, Chris Gayle, David Hussey and wicket keeper batsman Brendon McCullum. The main bowlers are Ishant Sharma, Ajit Agarkar Murali karthik, Umar Gul and Shoiab Akthar who will join if his ban is lifted (Hope it does).
They hav won their first 2 matches wid good totals and tho i have to supprt Chennai one part of me wishes KKR wins the match tmrw. Afterall I'd do anythin for Saurav and Shah Rukh [:)].

Bommerillu...[:)]

I no this is quite late to write abt this movie but hey I jus watched it now… And wat a movie..!! its cute from the first frame wen Siddu comes n hits the bike and stares back at the victim. It jus shows how much he’s vexed in life, how much he wants to break free and do the things he’s always wanted to. And den to the father…Prakash Raj as always shows that he’s among the best actors Tamil cinema has seen. The way he looks at disgust at those shirts, then chides the salesperson, chooses the shirt and the pride in his eyes wen he sees his son in that. He echoes the sentiment many dads have in this country, the need to bring up their kids (sons especially) the way they want to. The pucca homely mom, the sisters…a family u can find anywer. And then comes the spoil to this entire set up. With her very curly disobedient, messed up hair wich is a simple window to her wild self, Haasini (Genelia) drops in, the complete opposite of perfection Siddu is used to at his place. From the places she selects for eat outs to the ppl she befriends, one girl who cant keep her mouth shut (wich makes room for many really cute scenes). Over all this was a movie I seriously wud hav missed if I hadn’t watched it. So better at least. Jus that there were some really good dialogues I missed. Next time I’m gonna learn telegu full. They seem to have really good movies (and handsome actors !!).

Never play wid ur MOM !!

Mom comes to visit her son Kumar for dinner...who lives with a roommate Sunita... During the course of the meal, his mother couldn't help but notice how pretty Kumar's roommate was. She had long been suspicious of a relationship between the two, and this had only made hermore curious. Over the course of the evening, while watching the two interact, she started to wonder if there was more between Kumar and his roommate than met the eye. Reading his mom' s thoughts, Kumar volunteered," I know what you must be thinking, but I assure you, Sunita and I are just roommates."
About a week later, Sunita came to Kumar saying, "Ever since your mother came to dinner, I' ve been unable to find the silver chutney jar. Youdon't suppose she took it, do you? "
"Well, I doubt it, but I 'll email her, just to be sure "
So he sat down and wrote : Dear Mother, I 'm not saying that you did take the chutney jar from my house, I 'm not saying that you did not take the chutney jar. But the fact remains that it has been missing ever since you were here for dinner. Love, Kumar
Several days later, Kumar received an email from his Mother which read : Dear Son, I 'm not saying that you do sleep with Sunita, and I'm not saying that you do not sleep with Sunita. But the fact remains that if she were sleeping in her OWN bed, she would have found the chutney jar by now.Love, Mum.
Lesson of the day ..... Don't Lie to Your Mother...especially if she isIndian!

When Boys became Men

The A R Rahman show yday was a blast in Chennai. It shud be, since its not everyday that the gr8 prodigy performs. And what a crowd.!! The entire ground was filled with not a place to stand on. Every inch covered with people shouting and screaming on top of their voices, dancing with hairs down, singing like they were the next super singers, not bothered abt anyone around. Well yes, you guessed it rite. I was in the standing crowd. Not the seated VVIP seats, where it was as solemn as solemn can be. First time ever for me, standing shoulder to shoulder with perfect strangers and still being the lone one to scream the characteristic girly way. Of course there were times wen the crowd turned back to see who this hooligan was, but I liked it. I call this freedom, being the real me. I don’t know weder I can do this again. But I no I’ll never forget this time. I was able to come out feeling fully content, knowing that I enjoyed every moment, every second. I did things I wud never be able to in the hi-fi area, the only thing I missed was taking up my duppatta out and swingin it in the air. Well I obv cant do tht there wat with all those guys around. But one thing I really want to mention abt this show. I had gone der with my bro and his frnds. All school going kids trying to act big. But wen I left I knew they were. I was protected on all sides by 3 guys no taller than me. They find some guy trying to move close to me they come in between. I never felt so secure elsewer and I wondered, “How did they learn all this? ... At this age”. They had all grown up, my brother along with them, and I felt so proud, so good, so special. It took a standing area in a celebrity show to tell me all this. No idea where they learn this, but then thinking abt it, that’s India. The culture in wich they grow up. Their parents, their teachers can all be proud. The kids may be naughty, disobedient, but they’ve learned one quality which Ive always felt is most needed. They’ve learnt to respect women, to protect them. To know to respect girls the same way as u do your mom n sister. They may tease girls, make fun of many, and rag but they know wen to do wat and I’m glad they’ve learnt it. [:)]

DEATHS THAT MADE EVEN TOP DOCTORS WONDER

This case happened in a hospital's Intensive care ward where Patients always died in the same bed and on all Sunday morning at 11a.m,regardless of their medical condition.

This puzzled the doctors and some even thought that it had something to do with the supernatural. No one could solve the mystery as to why the deaths took place at 11 AM.

So a world-wide expert team was constituted and they decided to go downto the ward to investigate the cause of the incidents. So on the next Sunday morning few minutes before 11 a.m. all doctors and nursesnervously waited outside the ward to see for themselves what the terrible phenomenon was all about.

Some were holding woodencrosses, prayer books and other holy objects to ward off evil........ Just when the! Clock struck 11...

And then......

then.....

Then........

Santa Singh, the part-time Sunday sweeper, entered the ward and Unplugged the life support system & plugged in the vacuum cleaner

The Indian Premier League

The Indian Premier League (also known as the "DLF (Delhi Land and Finance) Indian Premier League"), is a Twenty20 Cricket competition created by the Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI). It is widely believed to be a reply for the Indian Cricket League (ICL) which was initiated by former Indian captain Kapil Dev. The first season of the Indian Premier League starts today at Bangalore with the opening match being between the Royal Challengers under Rahul Dravid and Kolkatta Knight Riders under Saurav Ganguly.
In all eight teams are taking part in this laegue. The names are Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Deccan Chargers, Rajasthan Royals, Bangalore Royal Challengers, Delhi Daredevils, and Kings XI Punjab. They are represented by players from all round the world, many of them maestros in the game. The IPL is spl since in here cricketers who were arch rivals on field will be playing side by side and sometimes again their players from their home team.
This has also become the most lucrative league with players being bid for as much as 1.5 million dollars (M.S. Dhoni) while few others (Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag) were given icen status in which they wud be paid 15% higher than the sums given to others.
The winning bidders for the eight franchises (as the teams were called) were announced on 24th January 2008. While the total base price for auction was US$400 million, the auction fetched US$723.59 million. Teams were bought by names like Mukhesh Ambani (bought Mumbai Indians for $111.9 million) . Even Bollywood entered fray wid Shah Rukh Khan bidding for KKR wid $75.09 million
The BCCI had found itself in the middle of many conflicts with various cricket boards around the world as a result of the IPL. The main point of contention was that signed players should always be available to their country for international tours, even if it overlaps with the IPL season. To address this, the BCCI officially requested that the ICC institute a time period in the International Tours Program solely for the IPL season. This request was not granted at a subsequent meeting held by the ICC. Also there have been problems regarding the cheerleaders. The IPL has been criticised by a few politicians and feminists for bringing in foreign cheerleaders, which is seen by many to not be in the traditional spirit of the game, as well as being against extremely antiquated and ancient Indian sensibilities purported to be upheld by these naysayers.
But no matter wat the contreversies the Indian Premier league is here to stay. It has received so much of publicity and enthusiastic welcome from so many fronts we can be assured that Twenty20 will be a much awaited form of the game wich has captured all the interest worldwide.

Times of India's blooper !!

The day was a Wednesday and I entered the Times of India office at Nandanam to collect the entry pass for the A R Rahman show with the leaflet which they had attached in their paper. There were quite a few waiting, obv with the Legend performing his first show in many yrs who wudnt want to be der. I waited with the rest of the crowd, leaflet in hand, till on the dot at 10 the lady-in-charge came out and started giving out the tickets with the announcement “Only one ticket per person”. It went smoothly till one person had 2 leaflets and that’s wen the drama started. She refused to give him the ticket and added, “Anyone who can come for the show can as well come and collect the tickets”. A lil harsh for someone who survives on the goodwill of its reader, she cud, wrong word, shud have been more polite. And isn’t that enough to flare up a person who’s already on the edge. He went on saying how he dint need to buy this paper, that he wasn’t cheap enough to have taken it from some paper lying on the streets, that after coming so far to get the tickets they shudnt treat him like dust. He had a point. If 5000 people buy the paper how can they expect the entire lot to come and collect the tickets. As if they want to have a one-on-one relationship with their clients…!! Anyhow, no matter wat one says, I expected a lil more from a newspaper which wanted to open base in Tamil Nadu for a long time but jus now got the opening. I walk out of the office and a guy stands there asking me weder I can collect the ticket for him since he has another leaflet. On the street I see another asking a passer-by if he can collect the ticket for him. One thing that shud be understood is everyone is taking off time from their busy lives and making it here to get the tickets. They wont be able to come again jus for that one extra ticket. It seemed all so sad. Wen u start in a new city ur supposd to understand the sentiments of the masses first. Especially when ur business thrives on their contribution. I’m not making predictions. I no the TOI is here to stay. Anyhow no one will even think abt this event later. But I thot i'll pen down that small incident wich made me smile in pity on the morning of 16th April.

Suicides...!!

My parents come from the state in India wer there are maximum suicides. Hey no ! not Vidarbha. At least there its farmers who cant pay their debts who suicide. Im talking abt krla were every year there is an average of 9000 suicides..!! He he..!! U mite wonder "Are there so many ppl in the state ?". Well the actual numbers may be lesser. But still it accounts for so many. Now thats something to poder abt. Lets take India as a whole. As per statistics "Out of every three cases of suicide reported every 15 minutes in India, one is committed by a youth in the age group of 15 to 29". And thats the age wen they shud learn to face problems and emerge out of it. Wat is the reason for such killings? Whether it is some other person or ur own self it is murder and i seriously wonder wat these ppl hav faced that they act think of taking up a knife and ending theie life. Its simply immaturty, they hav not seen the major sorrows in the world. Havin faced success for majority of their lives a small pinch of failure seems to put them down. Nowadays parents protect their kids so much that wen they go on to the real world they are not able to contain it. The youth never understand that there's more to life than winning every time. They've been pressurised to be on top from their school-going age, they consider themselves a failure wen jus one problem occurs. Problems will always be der, for everyone. Why not jus take the positive aspects and enjoy the time till den given. Many reasons can be given for wanting to take ur life away. But then shudnt one remember that life can be lived jus once? There is so much out there in the world we havent seen. Shudnt we get to see them all. As I so often feel
Life will give u hundred reasons to cry....but show life that u have thousand reasons to smile.
Live Life. Love Life.
There is no person who had been born, had lived and died in sorrow//
There is no person who had been born, had lived and died in joy.

God's Own Country....so they say..!!

It is a bit saddening to write abt my ancestors state in this fashion, but then facts cant be helped. Kerela inspite of all its shining numbers wud never be a place wer u wud want ur children to grow up. Lush green fields, unadultered beauty in its virgin form, the best place for ayurvedic treatment all true. but kerela within itself hides facts not many will be happy to no. It ranks first in the Human development index and still der are reportedly 9000 suicides every yr. The sex ratio is among the best in the country wid 933 females for every 1000 males but then it stands first in crime rate and atrocities against women. The infant mortality rate is only 14/1000 the lowest in the country but here's then wats the use if they end up being drunkards for life? it takes the first place for the most flourishing liquor trade wich was so quite evident in the large number of deaths that occured due to illicit liquor few yrs back. And of course the literacy rate. Thats world famous. Kerala has more than 90% literacy but is it known that the employment rate is too low there compared to other states. Bus conducters in kerala are all graduates or post graduates, and if u r lucky u may even find an engineer or LLB graduate there.!! Though it ensured basic schooling for all Kerala faltered in market relevant higher education. But u cant blame the governments alone. The ppl in Kerala themselves shud hav the mind to change. Tho outside the state they are ready to do any menial job widin they want only the white-collared ones and wont do any work except for the prescribed wages. And the strikes. Kerala doesnt need a reason to hav an hartal. They'll even hav one if Bush hits his dog in anger (well animal rights are common everywer u no). Ask abt kerala and everyone will say 'God's own country', '100% literacy' and 'Matrilineal Society'. But then literacy, physical health, even logevity mean little if there is no mental harmony. The unhappy ppl in kerala make for an unusual and an unusually sad fable.

Wats the difference ?!?

A mechanic was removing the cylinder heads from the motor of a car when hespotted the famous heart surgeon in his shop, who was standing off to the side, waiting for the service manager to come to take a look at his car.

The mechanic shouted across the garage,"Hello Doctor!! Please come overhere for a minute."

The famous surgeon, a bit surprised, walked over to the mechanic. The mechanic straightened up, wiped his hands on a rag and askedargumentatively, "So doctor, look at this. I also open hearts, take valvesout, grind them, put in new parts, and when I finish this will work as a new one. So how come you get the big money, when you and me is doingbasically the same work?"

The doctor leaned over and whispered to the mechanic....

He said: "Try to do it while the engine is running ".

Tell them before its late

One day Maths teacher asked her students to list the names of the other students in the room on two sheets of paper, leaving a space between each name. Then she told them to think of the nicest thing they could say about each of their classmates and write it down. It took the remainder of the class period to finish their assignment, and as the students left the room, each one handed in the papers. That Saturday, the teacher wrote down the name of each student on a separate sheet of paper, and listed what everyone else had said about that individual.

On Monday she gave each student his or her list. Before long, the entire class was smiling. 'Really?' she heard whispered. 'I never knew that I meant anything to anyone!' and, 'I didn't know others liked me so much,' were most of the comments.

No one ever mentioned those papers in class again. She never knew if they discussed them after class or with their parents, but it didn't matter. The exercise had accomplished its purpose. The students were happy with themselves and one another. That group of students moved on. Several years later, one of the students was killed in a war and the teacher attended the funeral of that special student. She had never attended Funeral of a serviceman before. He looked so handsome, so mature. The placewas packed with his friends. One by one those who loved him took a last walk. The teacher was the last one to bless .
As she stood there, one of the soldiers who acted as pallbearer came up to her. 'Were you San's math teacher?' he asked. She nodded: 'Yes.' Then he said: 'San talked about you a lot.' After the funeral, most of San's former classmates were there. San's mother and father were there, obviously waiting to speak with his teacher. 'We want to show you something,' his father said, taking a wallet out of his pocket 'They found this on San when he was killed. We thought you might recognize it.' Opening the billfold, he carefully removed two worn pieces of notebook paper that had obviously been taped, folded and refolded many times. The teacher knew without looking that the papers were the ones on which she had listed all the good things each of San's classmates had said about him. 'Thank you so much for doing that,' San's mother said.. 'As you can see, San treasured it.' All of San's former classmates started to gather around. Arnie smiled rather sheepishly and said, 'I still have my list. It's in the top drawer of my desk at home.' Raul's wife said, ' Raul asked me to put his in our wedding album.'
'I have mine too,' Chris said. 'It's in my diary'
Then Diane, another classmate, reached into her pocketbook, took out her wallet and showed her worn and frazzled list to the group. 'I carry this with me at all times,' Diane said and without batting an eyelash, she continued: 'I think we all saved our lists'.
That's when the teacher finally sat down and cried. She cried for San and for all his friends who would never see him again.
The density of people in society is so thick that we forget that life will end one day. And we don't know when that one day will be. So please, tell the people you love and care for, that they are special and important. Tell them, before it is too late.

Farewell my friends

I will not say good-bye

Yet I would say farewell

For we shall meet again

That I can foretell.

The future is unpredictable

Tomorrow is uncertain

Keep our laughs and memoirs

But I wish you have no burden.

We shall keep on learning

Remain as students and become as mentors

Face the unknown with confident yearning

Pursue our life endeavors.

Farewell, my friends, adieu

I utter it with pain

Farewell, my friends, adieu

In sunshine or in rain.

Farewell, my friends, adieu

This day would come, we knew

Our dreams we shall pursue

For now, my friends, adieu.

Southern residency Again

This was the second time we were going there. And i cudnt stop thinking abt the first. It was a sudden decision. We werent hungry but still we wanted to go. Simply cos after havin been in SSN for 4 yrs we had never been to SR-the closest thing to civilization in this desert. We had no money, had lunch to have and inspite of it 4 of us started to the so called '3-star' of Kelambakkam. And the fun we had there...gettin a lift from coll till SR, ordering the dishes, takin pics, talkin non-stop as always. That is a day i'll never forget. More spl cos we had never planned it. We wanted to go and der we were, sitting inside and havin our second lunch. Its always on-the-fly plans that works the best...tht'll always remain in the mind.

Finally Farewell !

Yes it was farewell today...the last day of coll officially. After this all of us ud be coming jus for the exmas and related work. It signifies the end of our relationship wid one institution that has seen our good and bad times for four. That has been the reason for our travel so far everyday. Making us feel lik v're onto a picnic (sometimes liked sometimes hated) everyday. There were so many things preceding this day. The apprehension till the end as to weder v will hav a farewell wat wid news of the princi being against it, the excellent work other depts did before ours and many politics (if u dint no...coll politics, esp chennai engg coll politics is one of the most funny ones). But as I had said we at last had that, the entire dept tog, girls in saris and guys in the traditional veshti (lakshannama !! [:p]). All of us taking pics in every square metre available in the coll wantin to make each portion immortal in our memories. Well guess thats the way every farewell ends. Anyho thats the way ours ended...act there was a bit more. There was the send off by our juniors but that isnt much to have mention here. The best portions i enjoyed in my final few days of coll...that will be noted here...forever...
