Htdtv contd.

Contrast ratio: This is quite simply how black the blacks are and how white the whites are. So the higher the ratio the better the image. 1:500 no thanks, 1:3,000 yes please.
Now for a bit of personal knowledge. I have no idea wat ATSC means but QAM is Quadrature Amplitude Modulation, considered to be a very bandwidth efficient technique for modulation of signals. Really good but requiring high power to transmit the signals. They provide signals wich have very low error rate of reception. Well guess it wasnt a waste doin ECE. At least im pretty good on the communication front.

Do u no wat HDTV means?

Have u wondered abt HDTV? Now wat is that if u ask do skip this post. But for the record I'll tell u that it means High Density TeleVision. For those who keep getting bombarded with ads about HDTV. Have u tried goin to a store wich sells these. You may find that the clerks really don't know much about them. And tho u some across one that looks interesting, u mite find description is nothing if not confusing. For example: Consider a 42-inch HD LCD set where the specifications say "a resolution of 1,920x1,080. It is compatible with 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p ". Now wat does the i and p mean? Let alone the other numbers. It is said to be compatible to NTSC (recognize that ??), ATSC, and QAM (now there we go !!) And what is Media Connectivity?
Hmmm...I understand. So i'll let u no things as far as i hav read abt the above. I shud thank cnet for all these info.
Ok, lets start with the resolutions/outputs. 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p all refer to the second half (the smaller number) of the resolution, so both 1080i and 1080p would display the resolution 1,920x1,080. Now for P. vs. I. P stands for progressive and I for Interlaced. With I, the image is made up of horizontal lines, these lines are then dived by two (every other, not top and bottom) and the information for these lines is spread over two frames of the video. This saves on storage space, and makes it easier on broadcasting companies, but with decoding of the interlaced video or fast moving scenes you'll see the horizontal lines.Progressive scan on the other hand, each frame has a complete image which it displays, this more powerful hardware to display it without stutters and requires a lot more storage space, but the image is always good.
Compatibility: NTSC refers to a technological format used by the US TV broadcaster i.e. in the UK our TV is broadcast in PAL. NTSC, is fine if one is from the USA. One need not worry about the others because everything you play will be encoded in NTSC. This is also the same for anything 'recorded' in these countries e.g. if you recorded some tv at home in the US then took the vhs tape with you to some freinds or relatives in the UK or japan it would NOT display properly if at all in their VCR, and also if you brought a vcr and/or tv with you from the USA that also would not work even if you had an adaptor for the different electrical plug that the US uses.
Media Connectivity: is quite simply a word used to say the input jacks on the rear and side or front panels. Nowadays with HDTV's there’s a lot more connections to think about. There’s you old S-Video and RGB, these are fine for standard definition video. However for HD video you'll need to use, HDMI, Component, (VGA, DVI these two are PC connectors). HDMI is one large plug (much smaller than Scart though) this will provide the best in video quality allowing you to watch in full 1080p with any interference as it is digital. Component has 5 jacks, 2 for sound and 3 for the image, but as the signal is apologue you may pick up interference. And now for one other thing you may need to know.
AMAZINGLY SIMPLE HOME REMEDIES

1. If you are choking on an ice cube, don't panic. Simply pour a cup of boiling water down your throat and presto. The blockage will be almost instantly removed.

2. Clumsy? Avoid cutting yourself while slicing vegetables by getting someone else to hold them while you chop away.

3. Avoid arguments with your partner about lifting the toilet seat by simply using the sink.

4. For high blood pressure sufferers: simply cut yourself and bleed for a few minutes, thus reducing the pressure in your veins. Remember to use a timer.

5. A mouse trap, placed on top of your alarm clock, will prevent you from rolling over and going back to sleep after you hit the snooze button.

6. If you have a bad cough, take a large dose of laxatives. Then you will be afraid to cough.

7. Have a bad toothache? Smash your thumb with a hammer and you will forget about the toothache.

8. Sometimes, we just need to remember what the rules of life really are: You only need two tools: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

9. Remember: Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.

10. Never pass up an opportunity to go to the bathroom.

11. If you woke up breathing, congratulations! You get another chance.

12. And finally, be really nice to your family and friends; you never know when you might need them to empty your bedpan.

13. The statistics on sanity are that one out of every four persons is suffering from some sort of mental illness. Think of your three best friends -- if they're okay, then it's you.

Are You so Jobless !!??

It seems so easy for some people to write stories when there actually is nothing to write about. And I've always wondered how they do it, how it comes so easily and naturally to some that they go on and on about nothing in general. What's it that keeps them going? Recently I have understood that at least writing is ok. Some people go on talking about something or the other continuously with no story in it. Now I think that is something. Seriously !! How can you speak about crap for hours together? And there will be people ready to read it too. It's all got to do with how you spin the web. You make it all so colorful and inviting your victims don't bother whether there is any trap within. They just fall through. Probably they get hypnotized by your voice. Or even better they've fallen in love with your expressions. Whatever it is seriously beats me. How do people actually sit through an entire pile of humdrum? For eg. I seriously wonder....How did you people ever get to this bottom line. Where you actually reading this entire thing? One which I wrote just cos I wanted an original post between 2 sponsored ones? Oh wow !!..People are jobless.

Gift of knowing what to give

Well that will be something all of us might have a problem with. A problem we all find hard to deal with. Especially the men. How do we buy a special gift to that special someone to make them feel the best. Or in fact any gift for any person we like. Here are a few ideas to make them feel just right.

  • An album of special photos. An old fashioned CD(probably with your own artwork) of favorite songs, or even a really special childhood book which might pull the right chords.
  • A home-made "voucher" of some kind whether it is for a specially cooked home-dinner followed by a night out at the local park, or simply one which says "I offer my services to shop, clean, babysit for you this entire weekend so you take the day off".
  • Any luxury item that they would never have been able to bring themselves to indulge on-the most special chocolates, a silk scarf, an exquisite jewellery piece.
  • An unusual, unexpected day out - a picnic, night at the theater, an afternoon at a real good spa, a long drive by the beach, that kind of stuff.

Prone to Allergy? Cut out the wine

If your family has a history of allergies or in the case that you yourself suffer from few the best practice to prevent them is cut out the alcohol. Scientists in Spain have found out that even moderate consumption of alcohol may lead to the presence of high levels of IgE antibodies in the blood of people who were prone to allergies such as asthma or eczema. The worst among them has been seen to be red wine, mainly due to its histamine content.

Without the cell

I tried it and emerged successful. I showed my mom I wasn't crazy of this gadget unlike what she thought. Mom had taken my cell away in a fit of anger and felt she'll give it only when I ask. And I didn't. Because I knew that if I do she'll remind me that I can't live without it. But that wasn't true. And true to myself I showed her I didn't need it. I lived an entire week without it. I went to office, came back, and still maintained contact with all my close friends. If not for their persuasion I would never have asked my mom. Guess they were tired of having to call home. But I showed them all who was the winner. I could survive without the so-called 'soul of Maria'.

Adorn with Flowers

Who wont love flowers touching them, smelling them or simply looking at them. So in the same way to increase the feel on your table, try adorning it with fresh flowers. Get this arrangement to add a dash of romance into any party that you may host and enjoy with the flowers. Fill few glass cylinders of length 20-25 centimeters with loose petals from different flowers. Get bright and light colors and mix them together. Mix pink and white or get lavender to play among them. Fill them with water and then place small scented candles in them. In all give it the calm mystic look, increasing the appeal in your room.

Anger takes your breath away

If you're prone to losing your temper, just think about this: Being angry can make your lungs weaker. Many, actually all of us do experience a pinge of shortness of breath when our tempers flare. But we never think much. Well now it's all proved to be true. A survey measuring the lung capacity and rating the hostility of over 670 men over a period of 3 to 8 years has shown that the lung power of those exhibiting high levels of hostility had become significantly worse as compared to those with low ratings. When people get angry their body produces hormones which prepare it to fight. These release chemicals which can cause our bronchial tubes to inflame. The tubes then narrow and this is reason you may feel breathless when angry. However this type of lung damage is tiny compared to the one caused by smoking. Still long-term irreversible damage can occur. So if you hear some unpleasant words don't fly into a rage. Just wait for
sometime, take a deep breath and think whether it is really worth the damage.

Way Out for the Stuffed Out

We all tend to over-eat at special occasions and then afterwards feel guilty or simply so full we cant even do why job. So for such cases after eating, all one needs to do is just have a long walk. After a meal with high fat content the natural antioxidant system in your body is for the time being increased to high proportions. This allows "free radical" molecules to damage your endothelial cells. For those in the ignorant side these are the very cells which play an important part in maintaining the health of your heart and arteries. So that means you might get into problems due to over-eating. But recently researchers have found that exercising after your meal may reverse this process. to augment this the British Heart Foundation has followed up on the studies and found that exercising right after high-fat meal can reduce the harm inflicted by 15%.

Why marinades are worth

Next time you cook red meat, marinade it first. Not only will it taste better, you may also help your heart. According to a recent study, marinating meats may help lower unhealthy cholesterol compounds that form during cooking. Researchers soaked minced pork in soya sauce and sugar and found that when cooked the marinade inhibited the formation of cholesterol oxidation products, which can cause cell damage and increase the risk of heart disease.

Super Soup

Move over, chicken noodle: Gazpacho is the real healing soup. A recent study found that the ones who had soup laden with cucumbers, tomatoes and green peppers for 2 weeks had much higher levels of vitamin C in their blood than others. This vitamin plays and important role in protecting the body against oxidative damage. It helps fight heart disease and high blood pressure by lowering LDL(bad cholesterol) and boosting HDL(good cholesterol). Since cooking reduces the heart-healthy benefits, it may be time to try cold soup year-round.

Matters of Taste

Slimy, gooey or mushy foods are the most likely to disgust. So say researchers involved in an Australian-Canadian joint project. They quashed the long-held belief that taste is what turns the people off food. The strongest component to bring on the "yuck" reaction is the texture. After presenting people with unfamiliar foods, that were labeled with fake names, the researchers asked them what they couldn't eat and why. In the majority of the cases the reasoning was that they didn't like the way the food "felt in their mouth." The researchers feel that it's important to be exposed to different textures from a young age.

Boy or Girl Car!!??

Drivers who give their cars human traits-calling them he or she, or naming them-are more likely to engage in road rage than those who don't. No one likes to admit they're a bad driver, so this gives them an excuse. They blame the car. And folks with bumper stickers or items hanging from the rear view mirror are more likely to be aggressive or impatient.

Typhoon hits China

More than six hundred thousand people evacuated as the tropical storm Fung-wong hit China's south-eastern coast late Monday. The typhoon weakened to a tropical storm as it landed outside Fuqing city in Fujian province bringing strong winds and heavy rains that left two poeple dead. Dozens of flights were also canceled at the province's Fuzhou airport. Power was cut off in Fujian's Puxia county as 15 electricity transmission lines and 498 transformer stations were damaged. No one was reported hurt. Fung-wong, Cantonese for Phoenix, is expected to be the strongest tropical storm so far his year with heavy rains and strong winds in the coastal areas forecast to continue for few days more.

Bachelor No More

Pop Star Justin Timberlake may finally be thinking settling down, as he is hunting for the perfect ring for his girlfriend Jessica Biel. The singer, who was left heartbroken by Britney Spears, seems to have finally found 'the one' in love Jessica Biel. Apparently, the singer has found a clever way to ensure the paparazzi doesn't catch him shopping for the ring at a jewelery store, as the singer is busy shopping online. The '4 minutes' singer is also reportedly eyeing many exotic islands as a venue for his marriage to Biel.

Agatha Christie

I had never been her fan. I had never read many books of hers. And I always felt her style was too high or vague for me. The few stories I had read of hers never clicked for me. But I just read one recently, more because my friend forced me to take it. And I'm thankful. Witness for the Prosecution is definitely one of the best courtroom dramas ever written. It is a short play with the usual dose of suspense and mystery present in every Agatha Christie book. The plot revolves around Leonard Vole who is arrested for a murder that he claims he did not commit. The facts are against him and he trusts his wife to bail him out. But then things turn out worse for him when his wife ends up as a witness for the prosecution. Why Romaine purposely serves as a witness for the prosecution is revealed only at the end and this was truly the best part. The special 50th edition comes with three other novels. If you've finished with this one start Jeffery Archer's Prisoner of Birth to get the same courtroom feel. A book that changed my opinion of Agatha Christie, so obviously a must read for you.
